History of Artistic Swimming
Artistic Swimming (formerly known as ‘synchronized swimming’),
available to both young women and men, is a demanding sport that combines swimming, gymnastics, and dance. Artistic swimming requires tremendous strength, stamina, and balance as competitive athletes participate in both large and small team routines in addition to figures, which measure individual swimmers’ precision. Routines are judged on synchronization, artistry, and level of difficulty.

Artistic swimming debuted as an Olympic sport in 1984. After a 16-year hiatus, Team USA qualified for Paris in 2024 and earned a silver medal generating a new wave of interest in the sport.
